Formulation Overview

Medical and skin care professionals should be confident they are providing patients with topical formulations and treatments that are based on the biology and science of skin and have been clinically proven to achieve results. Skin Authority is the skin care system of choice for the medical skin care professional.

PROFESSIONAL FORUMULATIONS

Skin Authority's Professional Products system includes patient tested peel and facial protocols which incorporate a base of pure unbuffered glycolic peel solutions at 1.0 and 2.5 pH levels with a concentration range of 35-70%. Building upon the glycolic base, Skin Authority incorporates a range of medical strength solutions into its protocols such as hydroquinone, kojic acid, l-ascorbic acid, salicylic, vitamin A and antioxidants to target a wide range of skin conditions.

CLINICALLY PROVEN RESULTS

Majority of published clinical studies based on glycolic acid - the smallest AHA molecule at 2 carbons establishing glycolic as the standard for FDA acid studies based on maximum and consistent penetration. It is the only AHA clinically proven to yield measurable results by FDA standards.

Other AHAs have a larger molecular structure and have not established critical body of clinical support by FDA standards:

  • lactic acid 3 carbons

  • salicylic acid 4 carbons

  • citric acid 6 carbons

  • Pure unbuffered* solutions at low and controlled pH achieve maximum penetration. Skin Authority peel pH ranges between 1.0 and 2.5. Research studies show the impact of pH on AHA effectiveness:

  • 10% glycolic acid applied at 2.2 pH yields 9% active AHA contact

  • 10% glycolic acid applied at 3.8 pH yields 6% active AHA contact

  • 10% glycolic acid applied at 4.6 pH yields 4% active AHA contact

  • 10% glycolic acid applied at 5.4 pH yields 3% active AHA contact

  • *This study above assumes unbuffered concentrations.

Buffering (combining) AHA's (such as 5% glycolic, 5% lactic acid) has been clinically proven to dilute the concentrated effect of acids when applied topically. For example, a buffered glycolic solution at 10% with a pH of 5.4 yields a 1.7% active contact versus the 3% listed above - significantly lowering the benefit to the skin.

Glycolic acid provides good, immediate exfoliation result with the added benefit of secondary results not found with other AHA solutions

  • Antibacterial effect (as good as or better than Salicylic acid)

  • Opens pathways for deeper penetration of other treatment layers

  • Non-drying results without TEWL (transepidermal water loss)

  • Stimulates cell turnover and cell growth

  • Improves micro-vascular blood flow

  • SAFE & EFFECTIVE FOR A RANGE OF SKIN TYPES AND CONDITIONS

  • Less than 1% of population is allergic to glycolic acids

  • The same protocol treats oily, dry, combination skin types - keeps protocols simple and helps predict results

  • Effectively proven to treat most major cosmetic skin conditions, including: aging skin, acne, sun damage, hyperpigmentation and combinations of conditions

  • Fragrance free to reduce allergic reaction

  • No animal testing to increase client confidence
